Corruption

The story is centred around the main wooden character and his obsession with “The Flame”. The Flame represents the Seven Deadly Sins, some of which have been linked in articles related to the destruction of habitat caused by humans, titled as the “Seven Environmental Sins”. As seen on Scene 7, the main character has found 6 different pieces to make “The Flame” grow, and he is seeking for the last one. The main character is implied to be obsessed with this quest. As he finds it, the flame that once had human eyes, starts changing to a different colour and chaos begins to ensue. The destruction of the forest due to the main character’s obsession and greed is a comparison to what happens in the real world with deforestation and destruction of habitat. Research showed that if humans ceased to exist, nature would be able to heal itself and thrive. This is represented by the butterfly, which is a recurring “character” in the story. The butterfly represents the never-ending cycle of nature. The first two and last two scenes are mirrors of each other, this is intentional to, much like the butterfly, represent a cycle. The butterfly changes colour to imply that a new cycle has begun, regardless of how much destruction was caused by the main character, this is to end the narrative with a bit of hope.
