Callum Peters and Alexander Jones are UX designers that are currently working for the BBC in Salford. For most of the interview, the pair discussed their careers and how it is to work for a company like the BBC. Callum is a Chester Alumni. He mentioned that working in UX Design has given him the ability to work with a wide range of people such as web designers and app developers.
Callum and Alexander touched upon the fact that there is no perfect or linear path to a creative career, having both of them studied completely different degrees (Graphic Design and Computer Science respectively) and both ended up working in the same area.
Throughout the lecture, Callum mentioned how working in a wide variety of projects for the BBC is how the job remains exciting. He also discussed what the process the BBC has for hiring new people and he stressed that a well written personal statement is key to getting a job.
One of the most important things that this lecture taught me is that I can relax when it comes to the career path I take. They also taught me to feel proud of my portfolio and to present it with confidence. It was very educating to hear from two completely different professionals, with two completely different career paths, and to hear how interesting the career they have pursued has been so far.
