Guest Lecturer: Steve McCoy and Stephanie Wynne

In 1997, Steve McCoy and Stephanie Wynne established their company McCoy Wynne. Both founders worked as teachers prior to this. McCoy Wynne is a business that focuses on photographing landscape and architecture. Some of their most notable work includes photographs of the Anfield and Goodison football grounds for Liverpool and Everton and photographs of Liverpool One.

Throughout the lecture, Stephanie mentioned the importance of copywriting and licensing photography. This due to the fact that one of the pictures they have taken having quite a bit of popularity and constantly having people wanting to use it. Steve also mentioned that, due to the digital climate, it is very difficult to pursue people about using their copyrighted images.

Steve and Stephanie also touched upon how necessary it is to meet the needs of the client, some of their jobs are done for PR (Public Relations) and because of this, it was important for them to choose the days with the best lighting to take certain pictures. Meeting the client’s expectations is crucial.

They also pointed out the significance of having good contacts in the industry. Doing a good job with clients and maintaining a good relationship with them after a job is incredibly important. They stressed the importance of finding the right people, claiming it is much easier to find a job through contacts rather than sending a link of your portfolio website or social media. Keeping a list of contacts can be key to a successful career.
