Heikala: Illustrator

As mentioned in a post before, watercolour is by far one of my favourite mediums. One of the people whose watercolour work I love and appreciate most has to be the work of Heikala.

Heikala is an illustrator based in Finland, she has become popular mostly through social media. A lot of their work, due to the sheer beauty of it, constantly goes viral in social media having given the artist a lot of recognition to the point where they sell their work and have created her own line of inks and watercolour. Having a following of over a million on Instagram, these are constantly out of stock due to their popularity which speaks to how good they are.

She graduated with a degree in Graphic Design from the Lahti Institute of Design but later decided to fully dedicate herself to doing what she loves and becoming a full-time illustrator.

From the illustrations, it is clear that Heikala takes some inspiration from Japanese animation, having some traces of it in her art. There is just something about the picturesque images of nature and animals. All her completed illustrators tell a story, there is a narrative behind them. Witches and cats are two of the symbols that are recurrent in her art pieces.

These are some of my favourite that she has created throughout the years:
