Commissioned Brief: Restaurant Menu

Updated: May 6, 2021

While doing my coursework for university, I was approached by a client to do a restaurant menu. Both a Portuguese and an English version of this. Which was a fantastic opportunity for me.

First, I made sure I knew exactly what my client was envisioning and wanted out of the restaurant. I needed to know what style the restaurant was (modern, traditional, industrial, etc) and I also asked the client if they had any idea of what they would want the menu to look like.

The second thing I had to figure out, was how to fit every single item of the menu in two pages, which was the size my client wanted. They requested for a front and back A4 page. The restaurant had several different dishes and drinks to pick from.

The English version of the menu, my client actually requested for me to translate it myself, if I could. Which I agreed to since I am fluent in both languages.

I did some research on what typefaces would look good together to make sure the menu would look concise and professional.

This was the final result:

In the end, my client was very happy with result and said that if they needed any other job done for them they would contact me again. I was really thankful to have had this experience to work and community with a client, rather than having a brief given to me by university or having one given to me created by myself.
